Install Ratproof

Ratproof installs from your browser. It gets its own window and a Start menu icon, and it works without internet. No file to run, and no admin rights.

How to install

Install Ratproof Free. In Edge or Chrome.

Or use the install icon in the address bar.

Using Firefox or Safari? Firefox can't install web apps. In Safari on a Mac, use File, then Add to Dock.

Ratproof opens in its own window and finishes installing. Keep it open until it says Ready. Works without internet. This happens once.

What it needs

  • Windows, with Edge or Chrome. Edge comes with Windows.
  • About 250 MB of disk space, plus room for the recordings you keep. Spanish and Swedish each add about 240 MB the first time you choose them (Spanish uses the larger model).
  • About 2.3 GB of free memory with the standard model, more for long recordings. See the numbers.

Subscribed to Ratproof Pro?

Open the link in the licence email on the computer where you use Ratproof. Or open Ratproof, go to Settings, and paste the licence under Ratproof Pro. About once a month, Pro fetches a fresh licence key. That request carries only the licence key. Nothing you record, keep or ask is ever sent.

Prefer not to install?

Use it in a browser tab. Same tool, same accuracy, free and unlimited. Installing adds its own window and use without internet.

For a whole organisation

To run Ratproof on your own server, for computers with no internet access, see self-hosted deployment.

Questions

Do I need admin rights?

No. Installing from the browser adds Ratproof for your Windows account only, and needs no admin prompt.

Does it need the internet?

Only to install. The first time it opens, it downloads about 235 MB. When it says "Ready. Works without internet.", it works with no connection at all.

Why is there no .exe to download?

Windows warns about programs downloaded from small publishers, and some computers block them. Installing from the browser has no program file, so there is nothing to warn about. Ratproof also stays inside the same safety limits as any website.

How do I remove it?

Open Ratproof, click the three dots at the top of its window, and choose Uninstall.
