The Fathom alternative for calls that can't leave your computer.
Fathom has a generous free plan and good sales tools. But your calls are stored on its servers, and by default they help train its AI. Ratproof transcribes on your computer, and never receives the file.
What Fathom says
-
we may use and create de-identified data generated from Meeting Content Information to improve our Service by training, improving, and customizing our in-house artificial intelligence models
. You can opt out in your settings. -
Asked whether it trains AI on customer data, its FAQ answers "No!", then says
Fathom uses de-identified customer data to improve the accuracy of our proprietary AI models
. -
All Fathom data is stored in the United States.

On 14 September 2026, Superhuman announced today that it has acquired Fathom
. Its policies today
are Fathom's. They may change. Case Western Reserve University also blocked Fathom and other
note-takers from its meetings in September 2025 (its notice).

Which one to use
Fathom for a sales or customer team that wants CRM sync, clips and AI call summaries, where everyone is fine with the cloud.
Ratproof when the call shouldn't sit on anyone's server or help train anyone's model: a client under an NDA, a source, a patient, an HR conversation.
Questions
Does Fathom train AI on my calls?
Its own models, yes, unless you opt out. Its privacy policy says it may use de-identified meeting data to train its in-house AI models, and that you can opt out in your account settings. It does not let OpenAI, Anthropic or Google train on your data.
Where does Fathom keep my recordings?
Fathom says all its data is stored in the United States.
Who owns Fathom?
Superhuman (formerly Grammarly) announced on 14 September 2026 that it had bought Fathom.
Can Fathom record offline?
Its iPhone app's help page says you need an internet connection to capture, and that offline recording is not available. Ratproof transcribes with Wi-Fi off, after the first visit.
Does Ratproof join my calls like Fathom?
No. Ratproof never joins a call. Record with your microphone, record the sound from the browser tab the call is in, or use a recording you already have.
